Lima to Start for Royals on Sunday
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals plan to call up pitcher Jose Lima from Triple-A Omaha to start against the San Francisco Giants.
The Royals bought Lima's contract Wednesday from the Newark Bears of the independent Atlantic League, where he was 6-1 with a 2.33 ERA in eight starts.
His last stint in the majors was last year with the Detroit Tigers, going 4-6 with a 7.77 ERA.
Lima was an NL All-Star in 1999, when he went 21-10 with Houston. He won 16 games for the Astros the previous season. The right-hander is 63-74 with a 5.14 ERA in nine big league seasons.
Lima is slated to take the start of Kyle Snyder, who is hampered by back pain.
