View Full Version : Mortgage the future?
Caught In A Mosh

I am in an NL only keeper league and I am thinking of trading a few of my young players for some vets:
MY
Jake Peavey 4s 5
Xaiver Nady 3s 3
Mike Redmond 1s 1
any pitcher
Eli Marrero 2L 6 (reserved)
His
Odalis Perez 3s 27
Bobby Abreu 3s 38
Michael Barrett 3s 16
Brad Lidge 2s 10
The only reason for all of the player is the fact of contracts. Any player that is signed (Eli), that is in the last year of their contract (Redmond) or who's salary is above 24 points is an asterisk player. We must make the trade equal in that we can only trade a non asterisk player for a non asterisk player and visa-vursa.
So is it worth it to me to trade my future in Nady and Peavey for Abreu and Perez?

I'm not one for taking risks. However, this is my first year doing a keeper league at all. I like Nady and Peavy. Both have great futures ahead but I'm not sure I'd give them up. One, I don't like Perez plain and simple. I do like Abreu but I think it all comes down to the stats the matter the most to your team. I'd base my decision on that. No one is a sure bet, even crafty veterans.

I like the trade a lot
unless you see the Padres improving dramatically in the next 2 years, I would rather have perez over peavy, peavy might have better stuff and strike out more batters, but perez doesn't allow runners on base which means his 4.30 ERA this year is the result of a little bad luck rather than poor pitching, he pitches in dodgers' stadium, remember, so he should finish the year with a good era, the dodgers' hitting is starting to come around, and with that bullpen, expect his leads to hold up, I predict 10 more wins this year
as far as abreu and nady, I don't see nady having much better power numbers in the years to come and abreu's much faster and hits for better average
lidge will be a solid reliever for years to come and is a bonus
I'm still not sure how exactly your league works, but
the gain this year will be much more than any gain you think you'd get in future years with the guys you have now, I say go for it

I agree about Peavy. Although I think he'll be a decent starter in the future San Diego really sucks. I remember the good ol' days when Detroit whipped their butt in the 84 WS. Those were the days. Anyway, I think it could be a good move. I just end up second guessing myself but obviously you don't. Good luck!
