Right fielder Larry Walker likely will not play in the field during the All-Star game on July 10 because of inflammation in his right elbow. Walker, who is hitting .343 with 27 home runs and 83 RBI, was not in lineup Saturday's 10-3 loss to the Angels and is expected to miss Sunday's series finale.

"Is it worrisome? No. Not at this point," said trainer Tom Probst. "You always are concerned because it's Larry Walker, but at this point, no." In Walker's absence, manager Buddy Bell plans to use Cliff Brumbaugh, Jacob Cruz and Brooks Kieschnick in right field.

Walker has only minor swelling his right elbow, a magnetic resonance imaging exam showed Sunday.

Walker will be available to pinch hit at the All-Star Game in Seattle on Tuesday and likely will see time as a designated hitter when the season resumes Thursday in Texas. Colorado plays six consecutive games in American League parks after the break.

"It's just a little tender after a throw I made in Arizona," Walker said. "Instead of being stupid like I did last year, I'm just getting some precautionary results and finding out exactly what's going on."
