"Benson is definitely on the trading block, though the Pirates are loathe to deal Giles because he is their best player and reasonably priced through the 2005 season. Undoubtedly, one of the two will be gone before next season starts because of clubhouse tensions."

Interesting ..

So Giles and Benson don't get along?

I guess that I do not really find this to be alarming. Especially with the way that Giles approaches the game, and with the way that Benson "appears" to be approaching the game recently. I can imagine that a number of guys do not like benson too well right now.

I think Benson will be gone. I talked to a few people and it seems that in actuality, a straight Rivera for Benson deal would be a good move for us, and that they feel that the Yankess are REQUIRING us to take him if we want Rivera to unload salary. This actually makes some sense since both pitchers have done poorly and Weaver has had some emotional outbursts. With that many guys in the clubhouse, and with the poor season continuing, there are bound to be outbursts. What I find most interesting here is that when Benson came up they said he was a conditioning freak and a perfectionist. One does not seem to here that much now. His work ethic was impeccable back then. Has that changed?

Well Shawn, this is not the first time I've heard of a rift between Giles and some of the other players ... one of the groups seems to be Giles, Kendall, and Williams, and from what I have heard from people in the media in columns and such, there has been a feeling that the big three alienates the rest of the team. Giles, kendall, and Williams were the same three who set up a shrine to Pat Meares, and still kept it up after Kile's death. Basically, this isn't the first time that the clubhouse has seemed to be in disagreement and Giles was involved ... for whatever that is worth. But you and I both feel that team chemistry is overrated, and if we're right, what the hell does it really matter??
