Flight Attendant Sues Carlos Perez

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A flight attendant sued the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, claiming former pitcher Carlos Perez roughed her up and threatened to shoot her during a charter last year.

Sandra Komine says she also was badly injured and required spinal surgery after an unidentified 200-pound player, who had ignored instructions to buckle up before landing, smacked into her as the plane touched down after the July 2, 2000, flight.

The suit contends that on the runway before a 45-minute flight from San Francisco to Los Angeles, Perez grabbed Komine's hair and ''shook her head violently side to side,'' and shook her again during landing after she asked him to turn off his cellular telephone.

Shortly after takeoff, Perez claimed to have a .45-caliber handgun in his carryon bag and threatened to shoot several attendants, telling one, ''I can do anything I want to you.''

Komine said the flight coordinator and Dodgers management were notified about the players' alleged behavior but she never contacted police.

The Superior Court suit by Komine and her husband, Max, seeks unspecified damages against the Dodgers, Perez and dozens of unidentified defendants. It claims negligence, assault and battery, negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress and loss of consortium because she cannot perform spousal duties.

''We are aware of the serious allegations that have been made by Ms. Komine against Carlos Perez and the Los Angeles Dodgers and we sincerely regret any injuries she may have sustained while working on a Dodger charter last season,'' said Dodgers spokesman Derrick Hall, who wouldn't directly respond to her accusations.

The Dodgers released Perez last month for poor performance, although the team still must pay the remainder of his $7.5 million salary this year.

Komine, 45, wore a heavy neck brace at a news conference outside the courthouse. She said she is still a Delta Air Lines attendant but has been unable to work since the flight and may be permanently disabled.
