Without the benefit of local Pittsburgh media I'm starting to figure out that Brian Giles may be a, ah, jerk. The passage below came from today's PPG. This is the third smarmy, back-handed quote that I have read from Giles in a week and I'm sure that local fans are aware of many more. Maybe he's just a wise guy. I know he's a prankster. He just seems bent on pimping management wherever and whenever he can. Maybe trying to force a trade without losing the fans? I love the way the guy plays the game and he does produce. I'm maybe just now seeing another side of Giles that I wish I hadn't. If he had KY numbers he would have been gone long ago.
For the first time since 1969, players have been given ballots to seek their input for All-Star reserves. But Giles told The Associated Press the Pirates left him out of the loop: "I didn't even know about it. Nobody gave me a ballot. It's the first I've heard about it. I guess that's what happens when your player representative gets released." The Pirates released 1B Kevin Young, their union representative, eight days ago.
