He sucks so much.
I hate that prick. He has cost us so many games...just like the whole freaking bullpen.
Bucs had a chance to pull within 5 1/2 tonight...they'll prolly lose now...

Is he close to losing his job?
If so, who is next in line for saves?

Nah. As long as Mac is the manager, Willie will be the closer. It sucks too. Tonight, I was listening to the game on the radio. I was actually trying to think of ways to shed some positive light on to his selection as an All-Star and possibly justify it. Just as I was getting semi-comfortable with the justification, he gives up the game tying homer. I almost wrecked my damn car at that point.
On a positive note, Jack Wilson hit a 2-run homer in the top of the 10th inning, and we won the game 8-7 to pull within 5 1/2 games of first.

Yeah Shawn, I wish I could find a reason why Willie is this team's All-Star. I'll probably be scratching my head for a long time over his selection.
Which raises a question ... do you know the highest ERA of any pitcher to be selected to the All-Star game? I can't imagine too many pitchers have made it with an ERA over 6.5.
A win is a win ... but I didn't exactly have a positive attitude after last night's game. But ... we're 5 1/2 games out of first, so we still COULD make a run.
Get me within three and I'll start thinking we have a shot at the pennant ....

I think Carter of Tampa Bay might have worse All-Star closer numbers than Williams. Carter's are identical to Estabn Yan's but Tampa needed to be represented and the outfield os too full for Huff or Brocadelli.
As we saw during his stint with the Astros (read contender) Williams is at best a set up man with a contender. No matter what his numbers were last year, he would not have closed for any of the playoff teams.
Let's face it, the only guy on the Bucs who could join a team and put them over the top in terms of making the playoffs is Giles. Heck, not one of the other 8 would even start.
