Tigers agree to terms with Magee

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers announced today that they have agreed to terms with outfielder Wendell Magee on a contract for the 2002 season.
Magee appeared in 90 games for the Tigers last season, posting a .213 batting average. The 29-year-old outfielder started last season on a tear, batting .424 before being sidelined with a fractured left hamate bone on April 28. Magee struggled at the plate and posted a .172 batting average after coming back from the injury.
Magee becomes the first player on the Tigers 40-man roster to agree to terms for next season. Five other Tigers players on the roster are already secured under long-term deals, including Damion Easley, Bobby Higginson, Jose Lima, Eric Munson and Dean Palmer.
