Giants announce 2002 Spring Training schedule

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants, fresh off their second consecutive 90-win season and looking to recapture the National League West crown which they won two seasons ago, will open the 2002 campaign with a 33-game Cactus League/Spring schedule, the club announced today.
The Giants will play a 29-game slate in Arizona beginning February 28, including 13 contests at their Cactus League home of Scottsdale Stadium. Following their final desert matchup March 26, the club will return to the Bay Area to host cross-bay rival Oakland in the Bay Bridge Series at Pacific Bell Park March 28 and 29. The team will also play the Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum March 30, before concluding the exhibition season at Pac Bell Park against the Chicago White Sox March 31.
Tickets for the Giants' home games at Scottsdale Stadium go on sale at all participating tickets.com outlets Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. (PST). Spring tickets can also be purchased at Giants Dugout Stores and the Giants box office at Pacific Bell Park. In the greater Phoenix area, tickets will be sold at the Scottsdale Stadium box office, beginning Jan. 8.
The Giants, who have held Spring Training in Arizona since 1952, will play 16 total games at home and 17 contests on the road in the spring of 2002. Each of San Francisco's first four contests will be against the Chicago Cubs, including the spring opener February 28 at Mesa and the home opener March 1 in Scottsdale.
San Francisco's home schedule features at least one contest against each of the other nine teams that train in Arizona, including a March 9 matchup vs. the World Series Champion Arizona Diamondbacks and a March 22 contest vs. Oakland. All Cactus League games played in Arizona are scheduled at 1:05 p.m. (12:05 p.m. PST), except for the Scottsdale affairs March 14 against Seattle and March 22 vs. the A's, which will both start at 7:05 p.m. (6:05 p.m. PST).
San Francisco will play the Cubs eight times during the spring, while playing six contests with the A's, three apiece with the Anaheim Angels, White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners, and twice vs. the Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.
