The Tigers are receiving inquiries about Jeremy Bonderman and Mike Maroth, but Bonderman could be their future ace and one executive says it would be foolish to trade Maroth, given the difficulty that teams face in developing quality lefthanded pitching.
The emergences of lefthander Wil Ledezma and Class AA lefthander Rob Henkel, however, could lead the Tigers to consider trading Maroth for a young hitter. Ledezma and fellow Rule V draft pick Matt Roney are now in the rotation, and the team's third Rule V selection, reliever Chris Spurling, ranks second on the club in appearances.
"It's the best year I've seen for Rule V draft picks in a long time," says a scout, citing the Tigers' Rule V picks, Blue Jays righthander Aquilino Lopez and Royals righthander D.J. Carrasco. "Those are five guys that I would think most teams would like to have." . . .
