BALTIMORE (AP) -- The Baltimore Orioles activated outfielder Chris Richard from the 15-day disabled list Thursday and sent Larry Bigbie back to Double-A Bowie.
Richard spent the minimum time on the DL with a bruised right knee, an injury that occurred when he ran into the wall chasing down a drive during a June 19 game against Toronto.
''It feels real good. I'm 100 percent,'' Richard said. ''There's still some (soreness), but it doesn't affect me.''
Richard is hitting .266 with nine homers and 27 RBIs.
Bigbie, called up from Bowie on June 23 to replace Richard, hit .174 in seven games with Baltimore. It was his first stint in the majors.
''I knew the situation coming in, so this isn't a surprise,'' he said after being told of his demotion. ''This was a great opportunity for me, to play at this level and see what it's like. It should help me in the future.''
Bigbie said his fondest recollection of his first trip to the majors won't be his first hit, but of playing on the same team as future Hall of Famer Cal Ripken.
''The memory I'll have is getting to play with Cal during his final season,'' he said.
Bigbie gave the Orioles something to remember, too.
''If nothing else, he proved to himself that he can play at this level,'' manager Mike Hargrove said. ''He didn't back down from anything and, really, he gave us a boost.''
