Isn't this the same guy who started that huge brawl against the Tigers last season?

Sweeney named 2003 Good Guy

KANSAS CITY -- Royals first baseman Mike Sweeney has been selected as one of the 2003 Good Guys in sports by The Sporting News. Candidates are nominated by individual teams and leagues for their generosity and community spirit. Sweeney was selected as one of 14 Major League Baseball representatives and one of 56 professional athletes.
"It's no surprise that Mike Sweeney has been named a Good Guy. His dedication to the community and strength of character are unmatched. We can all be proud that Mike is a member of our family," said Royals president Dan Glass.

Recognized as one of Kansas City's friendliest professional athletes, Sweeney makes a difference through sharing his time and financial resources. Throughout the season, Sweeney invites area nonprofit and charitable organizations to attend Royals games as part of the "Sween Team." He donates more than $20,000 in tickets and souvenirs to youths and adults who may not otherwise be able to enjoy a Major League Baseball game.

Sweeney is active with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, speaks at numerous events sharing his faith and testimony and leads the team chapel prior to games. Sweeney annually teams up with Kansas City Chiefs running back Tony Richardson to raise more than $200,000 through the Richardson-Sweeney Golf Classic, a benefit for Athletes in Action, a local faith-based outreach program.

In 2001 and 2002, Sweeney was selected as the Royals' Roberto Clemente nominee, an honor presented to the individual who best represents the spirit of community and generosity throughout Major League Baseball.
