In an attempt to fortify their bullpen, the White Sox got Scott Schoenweis and minor leaguer Doug Nickle from the Angels for Gary Glover, Scott Dunn, and Tim Bittner.

I agree. It seems they are trying to get as much pitching as possible and hope their explosive offense lives up to expectations.

So, is Anaheim pulling out(of the race)? I can't find any other reason they'd make this trade.

They have an excess of relievers, don't they? Percival, Donnely, Rodriguez, Weber, and Shields all have been having better seasons than Schoenweis. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they were pulling out of the race.

So far I say the White Sox, Red Sox, and Cubs have been the big winners, judging by immediate impact rather than long term. But theres still 2 days left...

The Halos were dealing from strength and for their future, and didn't have to really give up on this year in doing so ... They may already be conceding this season, but they can still go for it without Schoenweis fairly well.

I don't think they've given up on this season, but it will be difficult for them to get into the race now. Schoenweis hasn't been used as much lately and he wants to start. He's a lefty though so that's the only thing that bothers me about them letting him go.

KW said Schoenweis won't be looked at as a starter until ST of 2004. He said Schoenweiss isn't stretched out enough, considering he hasn't thrown more than 39 pitches in an outing this year.
