The Yankees just officially picked up Gabe White for a player to be named later. He was not officially involved in the earlier trade for Boone.

The Giants would be giving up their 1999 #1 pick Kurt Ainsworth in that deal, but apparently Baltimore wants more.

Great trade for both teams!!!

Ponson will help the Giants win this year and the O's get 2 good young pitchers with plenty of promise!!

Ponson and Schmidt make as good of a 1-2 combo in the NL!!

He basically will be a 2 month rental....

It cant hurt the dodgers but will a 3rd baseman that is hitting only .230 something (or somewhere around there) solve there hitting problems. Being a Rox fan I hope it does because I hate the Gaints about as bad as Dodger fan. So I go for the Dodgers over the Giants...

Hmm, that could be a name to remember for NY a couple of years from now.

Strange trades today .. Giants pay through the nose for 2-month rental Ponson, I think ... Houston gave up less to Seattle in the long run when they got Randy Johnson for a run ... Ainsworth & Moss could really be good for the Os.

And I'm not sure I understand the NYY deal, getting Boone and shipping Ventura out ... Boone faster and younger, but Ventura really fit well with that club and it sorta' looks like the Yanks made a deal just to make a deal.

Sox best deals were getting the two relievers this week, plus getting Lyon back ... Guess it cost them a lot in Sanchez who, I'm guessing, gets plugged in at 3B pretty soon for the Bucs ... But Sourpuss and Williamson should make that a pretty good pen .. I'm thinking Williamson at least splits save ops with Kim once we get to September.

They're saying bigger deals will come in the next week, predicting a bunch of big names to make it through waivers.

1. Ventura only has one home run since May.

2. They kept Boone away from the Mariners.

I would tend to agree that it looks as though Baltimore got a bit better part of the deal, especially in the long run, but if Ponson helps the Giants win the WS then I guess it was worth it...

Heck, the O's have said the are going to increase the payroll next season and they may even try to get Ponson back...

The Yankees deal I understand as Robin, although a GREAT clubhouse guy and great glove, he just was hitting horribly...

Boone is having a good year as he is hitting over .20 points higher, has double the HR's and has about 20 rbi's more than Ventura....
Plus he is a much better base runner....
He is also a little cheaper as if the Yanks care;)

Overall, I'd say it was definitely an upgrade for the Yanks....

You think the suppan trade was good.

damn, a tough day to open at work, I missed a lot, I just wanted to say a few things
I can't believe the Yanks got Boone, I liked Boone, would have still liked him if Seattle got him, now I gotta hate him, but the Reds did a good job in the trade, they need pitching more than Boone, maybe Brandon Larson can finally come up and contribute now
IMO the Giants gave up nothing in Damian Moss, one of the worst trades in recent history was them giving up Russ Ortiz for the bastard, but I think Ainsworth was a big loss and too much to give up, but with Ainsworth shelved for a few more weeks, I guess they wanted someone who could contribute now, but being up by 11 or so games in the West, I think they would have been better off sticking with what they had until Ainsworth got healthy, still a good deal for the O's
that's my 2 cents

Great deal for Baltimore. Ponson is finally looking like the pitcher he should of been years ago, and they got a guy in Ainsworth, who close to being as good as him right now, plus another good young starter in Moss, and another minor leaguer.

I heard some executive or reporter or somebody real on the FAN (New York sports radio station) saying that he thinks teams might be conspiring against the Yankees, not giving them decent players, because everyone is just sick of them winning.

If that's true, I say:

:clap2: :clap2:

The Boone-Claussen trade certainly was a strange one.

I'm glad I can now go back to liking Ventura! :bigsquare

I'm happy that the Mets did not deal Weathers or Trax, as rumors were abounding.
