this may seem like a dumb question, but it's always plagued my mind lol so i figured i'd ask you guys. when John Smoltz went from being a starter to being a closer was that a wierd thing to watch? and when Chipper went from 3B to LF was that strange too? The only thing I could equate those two moves to would be if for instance Andy Pettitte became the Yankees closer and Jason Giambi moved to LF lol that would seem a little strange and take some getting used to...
did it take u guys long to get used to it??

I don't know about everyone else, but the Jones move always bothered me, because it is much easier to get an all-star outfielder free agent than a third baseman. Chipper was no star defensively, but he was adequate and at least a little better than Castilla. Smoltz was easier to take, because he became dominant so quickly. The move added years to his career, and if he breaks the save record again this year is certainly approaching hall of fame status.

well, Chipper isn't nearly as good as Castilla defensively, he's much better offensively, but his D is not on the same level, and Smoltz didn't break the save record last year, well, not the ML record at least, he broke Randy Myers' and Trevor Hoffman's NL record of 53, but Bobby Thigpen still holds the ML record of 57, but I do believe Smoltz will crack 60 this year and make this a moot point, he's definately headed to the hall at this pace

Watching Chipper move wasn't hard, especially since he was a poor defensive 3B. I wasn't so sure about the Smoltz move, but it looks as things have turned toward the best.

I guess I had forgotten about Bobby Thygpen... And I looked up Chipper's defensive numbers, they are pretty weak and not like I had thought. That is kinda strange considering he came up as a Shortshop.

it doesn't really bother me, cuz as long as they can handle the change and stuff, and not play worse or anything bad, it's fine.
