Anyone else watching the Rangers-Yanks game tonight on ESPN? I got sucked in by the promise of Ernie Harwell calling the game ... Instead it's Chris Berman playing "Guess how many times I can talk over Ernie Harwell" ... Let Ernie just call the game, don't make it some oldtimers, "listen to my story" evening in the booth ... If you listened to them, you wouldn't know there was a ballgame going on ... I gave up :hmm:

well, that's what ESPN has been doing this year, they bring in a great broadcaster like Harwell or Marty Breneman, and they just talk to them, they don't actually have them call the game like they normally would

I caught some of the NY/TEX game. It was a shock to hear Ernie's voice at first. But after I recognized it I was locked in. Growing up in Michigan I was so used to hearing Ernie it was a shame when he left.

I was telling Jenn a story last night about a Tiger game when George and Al where doing the telecast. Some of you might even rember this. I know it was funny back then and funnier now.

The Tigers were playing the Royals away and there was to be a David Bowie concert the night. So George proceeded to say that "No inning could go past 7 pm because of the David Boowie concert." Yep. He said Boowie and not Bowie. Al caught his mistake and exclaimed, "That's David Bowie, George." George replied, "Well, David Bowie now!" Ah, good times.

Berman sucks! His act got old. He's not a real knowledgeable baseball man and he just gets under my skin.

wow I'm not alone! I think ESPN is just wating for him to go into the NBA commit a crime so they can fire him with littel guilt. He know almost nothing abnout the game and is really a sideshow when on the mic

I was really lucky to get this game, and like Willie, was excited by the prospect of Harwell calling the game. When Ernie did get a chance to call the game, he did not disappoint, and some of his stories were fantastic to hear. But yeah, Berman did annoy frequently, and in fact, has a tendency to do so.
