The Tigers are now guaranteed to have their 10th strait losing season after tonight, and it's barely August. Way to go team!

There still my team too, but it's embarising. There's no reason they should be this bad. They're not in terrible shape financially, the owner does care no matter what anyone wants to say, they have a great fan base, great history, new ball park, and several talented players who do want to win. And if they reach 121 loses, this will be a huge joke, and will scare this team for a long time, much more than anyone may think right now.

I know I keep up the same refrain, but this team doesn't have more than a couple of good players. The minors don't have very many good players, either. This team could be very, very bad for three more seasons unless something dramatic happens. As for being a huge joke, they already are.

I do wonder about their finances, too. I think the ballpark debt is huge. That has to be hurting them. As the attendance is also lousy, I do not believe anyone's attendance figures, that can't be helping their bottom line.

I also think Comerica National's dimensions are killing them. Their hitters are getting bad habits and lack confidence. I also fear the pitchers may be horribly overrated due to the fact they pitch half their games in a cavern. They go on the road and get lit up.

#1, in general, I really do agree with your statements. Great fan base in hiding, I think the owner does care (he's just clueless), great history, new park, all that is correct. They just need some decent players to improve their record and interest will grow.

Jen, sometimes I worry about you. Even if you love something, when it doesn't love you back, if you have to know when to cut your losses.

Thay do have good talent, their just not able to put it all together. You know what Dmitri can do, you've seen what Higgy can do with other good hitters in the line up, Eric Munson was far and away the best hitter in the draft that year, and most of these guys did great in the minors, and were ruined once they got to the majors.

I can't believe it's been that long. I use to always watch them but years and years back. They have always been a favorite team. To bad they can't get it together. Lets just hope they can get it going and maybe have a couple of years of re building and get them back up there.

Everyone worries about me. I swear everyone thinks I'm some kind of nut case or something :D just cus I am doesn't mean anything ;)

I dunno Brain, maybe I'm a sucker for punishment? :notme: All I know is that I have loved this team my entire life, I'm not about to stop now, no matter how bad they are. I just can't stop loving them. I would never be able to love another team the same way.

You know what I mean? or am I just an idiot? :D

Here's the problem, #1. Young is having the year of his life and he's led the Tigers to the worst record in the history of the game. Is their record his fault? Of course not. All I am saying is that even posting his greatest season, Young has made little difference.

In addition, you cannot expect him to have another season like this one. His production is almost certain to diminish, although I would indeed like to hope for something close to this for the remainder of his contract. (At least.) I don't disagree that the guy is a hitter. He's also a defensive liability, but that's another story.

Higgy hasn't been able to hit this season, in spite of Dmitri's tremendous production. So much for "having other good hitters in the lineup" theory. He isn't getting younger and his stats aren't improving. We've seen Higgy at his peak value, I don't think it's that big a stretch to assume that he is on the decline. We cannot expect him to be a difference maker.

I also disagree that Munson was the "best hitter in the draft that year". Even if he was, that was based on college numbers. That has little to do with his ability now. Thorughout his professional career, he has been HORRIBLY slow to progress. His numbers now are mediocre at best. Tony Clark has 12 dingers, for crying out loud. 15 ain't all that much.

Can all three of these guys contribute to a championship team? Probably, yes. Can they start for a championship team? Maybe, if the rest of the team is filled with all-star caliber players. However, where the Tigers are now, that doesn't matter much.

They need Munson to crank out 30 HRs a season, not 20. They also need him to hit better than .250. (Ditto for Pena, btw.) Higgy needs to get his power back, as well and hit closer to .300 than .200. Young needs to keep up this pace. That's just to make the Tigers plain crappy, not extra special, historically bad, double crappy, as they are now. That, imo, is asking for a whole lot. I just don't see it happening.

#1, do not fall for the guys "just can't get it together" line. We've been hearing that nonsense for years. The reason they cannot get it together is that most of them are just plain not very good. Most belong in the minors or are MLB bench players, at best.

Also, don't be fooled by minor league numbers. The minors are filled with guys with great numbers and tons of potential. So are Taco Bells. There is a big difference between the minors and The Show.

Jen, that last one is a loaded question. As long as you can seperate that type of loyalty from your relationships, my friend, I will not worry.

I love the local guys, too, but I will not blindly follow along. Ilitch has me far too angry for that.

Thats a lesson I am slowly learning Brian... as my life goes on, I realize really how young I am and just how much I have yet to learn

Somebody since Prince Fielder. lol. Even though they are very, very bad this season, they are still entertaining to watch. I like the Tigers, always have, always will. But you can only swallow your pride so much and exclaim, "Yes, I'm a Tiger fan!" But then again I was a fan of the Tribe when they were just as bad. Good ol' Brook Jacoby, Tom Candiotti and Andy Allanson.
