Just for some mindless entertainment, here is what I think of the current Tigers roster plus a few Mudhens that still get talked about here.

Hinch-Lose him. Great AAA catcher, though.
Walbeck-Lose him. Just can't hit enough to even be a backup.
Inge-Lose him. I think I'd rather have Hinch at Toledo.
Pena-Let me think about this for a minute.
Witt-Keep him. For one more season. Really more of a role player, though.
Morris-Keep him. Another one or two season stop gap, at best.
Santiago-Lose him. Just looks overmatched.
Infante-Lose him. See Santiago.
Halter-Lose him. Oops. No need. He will leave on his own around November 1.
Munson-Keep him. Really should probably be put back at catcher. Imo, doesn't hit well enough to be a corner IF.
Higgy-Keep him. What choice do we have?
Sanchez-Lose him. Yesterday would be fine with me.
Young-Keep him. The ONLY regular really worth keeping, imo.
Petrick-Lose him. If he can't hit enough to start, there are plenty of other bench players already here.
Torres-Lose him. See Infante.
Pena, part II-Keep him. In all honesty, I just don't see much out of him or Munson. I'd love to lose them both, but everything considered, both should stay through the trade deadline next season at minimum. Of course, I like both of them, so that clouds my thinking somewhat.

Bonderman-Keep him. The the "franchise" hurler right now.
Maroth-Keep him. Just don't ever expect Cy Young Awards. More of a number four guy.
Cornejo-Lose him. I gave up on him last season.
Sparks-Lose him. Like Halter, will be gone after Nov. 1 anyway.
Ledezma-Keep him. At Toledo. He should be getting innings at AAA right now.
Roney-Keep him. See Ledezma.
Rodney-Lose him.
German-Keep him. Still too early to tell.
Mears-Lose him. Like everyone else here, a nice enough guy, but the Tigers need really good players.
Walker-Lose him. I am probably the only one in town that cringes when he gets the ball.
Eckenstahler-Keep him. I really haven't seen enough to know.

I have probably missed someone. I just went off the top of my head. If you can think of someone to add, please do. Also, keep in mind that I would love to be wrong on all the negative comments. However, many of these players have had a season plus to prove otherwise. The Tigers are in desperate need of difference makers and almost none of the guys above even have the potential to fill that category.

Negative, negative, negative!

and you're right... we have no choice but to keep Higgy, if we get rid of him, Jen's going postal on CoPa

If you do go postal, please try to move in the right-centerfield fence. I think that would help. Thanks.

Keep Munson! He's a Bill Mueller type GAMER only young!

C Inge- keep him as defensive replacement and insurance, you want your backup to be good defensively.

C Hinch- lose him, this guy is a career AAA good player

C Walbeck- lose him. No value... may be a good manager one day

1B Witt- keep him. Solid contributor at 1b/dh

1b Pena- keep him. Potential up the ying yang, will figure it out one day, hopefully while still in a tiger uniform.

2b Morris- lose him. If we can't find anyone better we can always get him back.

3b Munson- Keep him. My favorite Tiger now, improving albeit slowly.

SS Santiago- lose him if anyone wants him.

SS Infante- keep him, but leave him in the minors to build some confidence for next year.

Util Halter- lose him. decent in stretches but doesn't fit with our rebuilding

OF Higginson- lose him. If we have to give the guy away and pay half his salary. Has given us nothing the last 2 years when we needed it the most.

OF Young- keep him. Our best player, this year is no fluke he is a career 300 hitter. Defensive liability but we'll find someplace for his bat

OF Sanchez- keep him. the only legitimate leadoff guy on our roster. Headaches for sure, but his speed makes up for them.

OF Monroe- keep him. First extended time in the big leagues has been marginal, but there is potential.

OF Torres- lose him. reminds me of brian hunter.

OF Cody Ross- keep him. Will be our next Higgy.

Sp Bonderman- keep him. Wish they would have left him in the minors this year.

Sp Maroth- trade him. Probably our most movable commodity. Has maxed out his potential which is average.

Cornejo- keep him. Hope he harnesses that sinker someday and becomes a derek lowe type. chances are slim but i havn't given up.

Roney- keep him. more of a middle reliever in my opinion.

Ledezma- keep him. probably pitched more innings this year than the last 2 put together. Needs time to adjust.

Sparks- keep him. although not very good, he is invaluable because he could pitch every day. Start, relieve, etc.

Rodney-lose him. how many chances are we going to give this middle reliever?

German- keep him. should have been in the minors all year. Will be our closer and decent in a few years

Mears- keep him. wouldn't be able to get anythging for him and he aint terrible...not to mention who would take his place???

Patterson- lose him. too expensive for a guy we don't really need.

Anderson--lose him. Someone should have an interest in the former #1 overall pick. The guy makes tons but isn't even in the majors.

Walker- keep him. Has shown the ability to get elite lefthanders out.

I'd love to lose Higgy, Gerg, but I just can't see that happening. His contract makes him almost untradeable. His no-trade clause is the icing on the cake. I still hope he will accept a trade after this epic season.

Sanchez scares the you-know-what out of me. He can't play defensively (Hey, is that the ball? Maybe I should throw my glove at it?) and for all his speed, he sure gets nailed an awful lot. His bunting has improved, but I just don't get the feeling he will ever be a hitter. To me, Sanchez is more Brian Hunter than Torres. Torres is worse than both, imo.

Munson and, to a lesser extent, Pena look to me like they aren't ever going to live up to the hype. They can be everyday big leaguers, but complimentary players not stars. They probably are worth keeping, but they play positions where guys tend to hit a bit more than either of them do. I think that limits their long-term viability. I also fear they are the second coming of Clark and Higgy.

I do like Witt, Morris and Monroe (whom I left off my list, oops.) as bench/role players. They can play another season as stop-gaps, though.

I have never had much use for knuckleballers, thus my distrust of Sparks is probably too biased. The fact that he hasn't been the same in nearly two years now doesn't help my opinion of him.

My overall comments were aimed not so much at next season, but the long-term. I just don't think too many of these guys will be here if the Tigers ever get good. In large part, because most of these guys just don't have enough talent to make the Tigers better.

I can see your points on everything except Sanchez. I think his average is up to .290 and he is in the top 5 in the american league in stolen bases.
