Higginson, Gibson ejected

DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit Tigers outfielder Bobby Higginson and bench coach Kirk Gibson were ejected in the first inning of Sunday's game against Minnesota.

Higginson was ejected after angrily throwing his bat toward the Detroit dugout after popping out in the bottom of the first inning. The bat landed near home-plate umpire Doug Eddings, who had run down the third-base line on the play.

Higginson raced back onto the field to argue with Eddings and was eventually pulled away by manager Alan Trammell.

Gibson was ejected for yelling from the dugout.
