Ok, a few things about this story ... First, I'm in total agreement with Laz Diaz: These morons need to do some hard jail time in a cell with Billy Bubba ... That said, why is it Diaz is only now returning to action? ... I was under the impression he hadn't been hurt in the attack :notme:

Also, I love his quote about needing long jail sentences in order to, ahem, "deteriorate the rest of the guys from coming on the field." :lmao:

AL ump says 'gloves will be off'

CHICAGO -- Next time, umpire Laz Diaz says he'll fight back.

"If anybody comes on the field, jumps on a player or one of our umpires the gloves are off," said Diaz, who in April was attacked by a spectator who ran on the field. "There is not a security guard that's going to stop me."

Diaz said he was to meet Sunday with prosecutors in his case.

The man accused of attacking the umpire during a Chicago White Sox-Kansas City Royals game at U.S Cellular Field, Eric Dybas, has pleaded innocent to one count of felony aggravated battery and one count of misdemeanor criminal trespass.

"Somebody's got to be made example of," Diaz said Sunday. "Give him at least a year in jail ... just to deteriorate the rest of the guys from coming on the field."

Diaz returned to the ballpark for the first time Friday since the April 15 attack. His return came just days after a judge sentenced William Ligue Jr. to 30 months of probation for attacking Royals coach Tom Gamboa last year.

"The guy that attacked Gamboa, assaulted him, he lost some hearing and he (Ligue) got 30 months probation," Diaz said. "My guy didn't do as much damage and he will probably get less."

It was the first time he returned to that park, not returning to action. At least that's how I interpreted it.

I too hope the moron spends time in jail.
