Phils to attempt record, despite Village People scheduling conflict

The Philadelphia Phillies will still attempt to set a Guinness Book of World Records with the largest "Y.M.C.A." dance after the seventh inning on Friday, August 15 despite a scheduling conflict with the Village People. The Village People, who have added a new date to their tour, will not be attending the game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals at Veterans Stadium.

The Village People will still appear in Philadelphia in the "Get Up and Dance...The Summer's Biggest Disco Party" at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, August 16 at 8 p.m.

The Phillies, led by the Phillie Phanatic, will encourage everyone in attendance at the game to perform the "Y.M.C.A." dance as the music blares throughout the stadium. The current record is 13,588 set on July 4, 2001, at Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium, Omaha, NE at a baseball game between the Spikes and Salt Lake Stingers. The historic "Y.M.C.A." feat will take place in a venue that will soon be "history". Opening in 2004 will be the new home of the Phillies...Citizens Bank Park.

Tickets to Get Up and Dance... The Summer's Biggest Party are priced at $55 and $45 are now available at the Wachovia Center box office and all Ticketmaster locations throughout the Delaware Valley. Tickets can also be charged by phone by calling (215) 336-2000 or (856) 338-9000 or online at ticketmaster.com. Group tickets can be purchased by calling (215) 389-9543.
