The New York Yankees announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Antonio Osuna on the Bereavement (family leave) List -- effective Monday -- to return home to tend to a family illness. To replace Osuna on the 25-man roster, the Yankees have recalled right-hander Bret Prinz from Triple-A Columbus.
Prinz, 26, was acquired by the Yankees on July 29 with outfielder David Dellucci and catcher Jon Sprowl from the Arizona Diamondbacks for outfielder Raul Mondesi.
With Columbus, Prinz has posted a 2.08 ERA with seven strikeouts in four relief appearances (4.1IP, 6H, 1R). Prinze was 4-3 with a 4.31 ERA in 66 games with Arizona.
Prinz was originally selected by Arizona in the 18th round of the 1998 draft.
