Sweet! I'm extremely excited! Practically got a gumby thinking about it
Way cool, can't say enough ... (Hee-Hee! I'm watching Cubs-'Stros and Estes just walked in the tying run! :clap2: ... Ray would not be amused! :D )
Anyway, I find about a thousand interesting things to discuss just looking at these stats, and I've been studying them for about 15 minutes now James, they are so neat-o and groovy ... But the one thing I can deduce is that pitching proved a bit more prominent, at least among the teams you grouped together ... Just looking at the scores, there aren't that many double-digit scores, at least there are fewer than I expect we will see in a season of all-time greats.
Reason being instead of Lou Johnson batting in the 2-hole and playing LF for your team like the '65 Bums above, you're going to have Slug Heilman or Tris Speaker or Cool Papa Bell ... Instead of Don Zimmer hitting 7th and playing 2B, you're going to have Joe Morgan or Frankie Frisch or Ryne Sandberg ... The overall pitching staffs of World Series winners will, generally speaking, be better than their everyday lineups ... Does that make sense?
Anyway I'm gellin', dude, gellin' like there's no tellin' :smokin:

Another thought ... If you don't find enough players, there are a couple of options ... First, I'll draft more than 1 team if that will help.
Secondly, you could just put together some "all-time franchise" teams ... You take the Mets, I'll put together the Astros, etc. ... Might be even easier that way for someone to "manage" more than one team so you can get at least 10-12 teams going.

So in your first post, are you saying that it appears as though it seems as though it is too pitching dominating??
2nd post, that is a great idea.....
We can have a couple of beatup teams....
I like it......
Question though, say I take the Mets....Surely Tom Seaver will be in someone's rotation and obviously he is the best Met pitcher ever....Do we use him for 2 teams or just take the best of whatever is left for our alltime Mets/Stros teams??

Not saying the game is tilted either way, just that those were your results ... I know you were playing just a 154-game schedule, which I think is the best, can you program Doubleheaders to force using extra starters?
But I looked at the runs scored for the '70 Os, and your sim was under 700 ... Part of that is the 154-games schedule, part of that is I think that the pitching should be tougher in the setup like you had it because overall the lineups are facing such stronger pitching staffs than they faced the years they won the WS ... It's exactly like it probably should be, that's what I'm saying.
But when you start having all-time teams like we'er drafting in the History Forum, those teams would be expected to tilt the stats more to the offensive side because every lineup 1-8 will be so much tougher than the regular lineups the pitchers faced in their best seasons ... Does that make sense now?
Ok, the all-time franchises ... What I would suggest is you pick a single season for each player when they played for one franchise or another ... So yes, you could have Nolan Ryan facing himself as an Astro and an Angel, Frank Robinson could play for the Reds and O's, etc ... Establish some minimum (maybe 5 seasons so say 750 games for a position player, 750 IP for a starting pitcher, 250-500 IP for a reliever) for a player to qualify for a franchise ... In other words, Babe Ruth wouldn't qual for the Braves.
You could also "seed" the franchises based on history ... For example, you could have one 8-team division that included the Mets, Astros, Rangers, Padres, Royals, Blue Jays, Angels and Expos in one division since they're relatively the same "age" ... Then one NL division with 8 original teams and one AL division with 8 original teams ... I'm assuming all of this because you can set up an unbalanced schedule, real limited interdivision play ... Reason being that the Yanks should have a better team without question than the Astros or Expos just because of franchise age ... Same thing, the Braves should be stronger than the Mets or Royals.
Set it up so the winner of each division and the 2nd-place team with best record make the 4-team playoffs, etc.
Just rambling here.

And since I'm rambling, here's a little more ... Cubs lead Astros 6-4 with 2 outs in 9th, Alou with a 3-run tater in the 5th off Miceli ... Two on and Kent batting versus Borowski.
One more way to run it, and this might be really neat, would be to draft "decades" ... You be the 40s, I'll be the 70s, etc.
This means your draft is all of one round long, then the players just come up with their own lineups and deliver you the pertinent stats and rosters.

Great ideas across the board Willie..
You are truely a genius....
I have an idea right now and I'd like to stick with it using any player and using his career stats...
I actually divided every # by 10 since some of the fields I have to input only allow so much space......
At least this is my plan for the first league....
You have come up with some great ideas for any future leagues we may do....
PM and give me a few times that you may be able to get on via IM and we can chat in more detail....
I am good most any evening....

Very impressive, J. I look forward to playing. Btw, no way the '75 Sox play that poorly.

that looks pretty good, pretty much the same stuff I would have come out with if I do the High Heat sim, there were a few more stat leader categories in DMB, but it all looks to come out pretty similar, I'm down to do it however, any of the ways that Willie stated, but I like the all-time draft like we've been doing it more control and more strategy, also, how much control does this game give you in the day-to-day management of the teams, can you set lineups against righties and lefties, designate the frequency of steal attempts, hit and runs, etc.?

:laughing Trots, that's exactly what I was talking about in our All-Time Draft thread about a week ago, that some great team or team of greats is still going to lose 100 games ... It's just how it goes, the only finite or guaranteed numbers each season in baseball is there will be so many wins and the same number of losses ... A long, long time ago, I'm talking 1965-66, a couple of my buddies and I played a 154-game round robin between the '62 Reds, Pirates and Braves using the old APBA board game We'd all travel around with our little card packets and dice in our pockets all summer long, even had a home-and-away schedule working ... Ah, those were the days..................:sigh:
Anyway, in the actual 1962 standings those three teams were about 15 games apart in the NL that season ... But when we were done that summer, they were 2 games apart: Pirates were 78-76, Reds 77-77 and Braves 76-78  We still talk about it when we see each other at high school reunions and weddings and, sadly, funerals ... Our wives think we're crazy being able to remember all that ... But my point is that can happen in these sim games, but the norm favors a more widely gapped set of ranks.

Oh, I understand the premise, PT. I just think those kids from '75 would have fared better based totally on my bias towards them.
Btw, I do love the APBA story. Even though it's more bittersweet today.
