In 2001, Lance Parrish was a coach on the Tigers. In 2002, the former Tiger All-Star catcher will be broadcasting Detroit's games on television. After being fired by manager Phil Garner, Parrish was offered a number of positions in the organization (including managing the Tigers' AA affiliate in Erie, PA), but chose the tv gig.
Parrish still hopes to manage in the bigs someday and will try to follow the path of Brenly, Martinez and Dierker from tv booth to dugout.

I think he's going to be pretty good. I heard him on the radio the day the announcement was made and Parrish sounds like a good choice. Although, we won't hear him too much as the UPN 50 deal allows for only 40 games in '02. Fox Sports Net gets the majority of games.
It's kind of funny that Parrish got the job. When Kaline moved from the tv booth to the front office, the Tigers and UPN held on-air try-outs for a number of ex-Tigers. About a dozen or so guys got to give it a whirl. In the end, Parrish, who never got a try-out as he was on the field, got the job. I guess that says something about the auditions.
