MLB Denies Gophers' Request
MINNEAPOLIS -- MLB will not allow the University of Minnesota to use the Metrodome for college football on two dates in October that the league had already reserved for possible Twins postseason games.
The university announced it had requested use of the dome on Oct. 11 and Oct. 18, but baseball had denied the request.
With the help of Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., the Minnesota Twins and the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission, the university hoped to work out a deal to play its football games against Michigan and Michigan State.
A final decision on when and where the games will be played will not be made until Sept. 28, the last day of the regular baseball season. If the Twins make the playoffs, the Oct. 11 game will be moved.
If the Twins win their divisional series and qualify for the American League championship series then the Oct. 18 game will also be moved.
