LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the signing of onetime Dodger pitcher and NL Rookie of the Year Hideo Nomo.

The former Dodger All-Star for the Dodgers agreed to a two-year contract to pitch for his original Major League team in 2002. Nomo, who led the American League in strikeouts last season, was 13-10 with 220 whiffs for the Boston Red Sox. Nomo's big highlight last season was tossing a 3-0 no-hitter against the Orioles on April 4. It was the second no-no of his career.

The 33-year-old starter from Osaka, Japan, exploded on the baseball scene in 1995, winning 13 games and being named NL Rookie of the Year in 1995 by the BBWAA, the fourth of five consecutive Dodgers to win the honor. He led the league in strikeouts (236) and shutouts (3) that year and ranked second in the NL in ERA (2.54).

After two strong years with the Dodgers, Nomo left the team in 1998 and pitched for the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers and Red Sox before today's announcement.
