I'm guessing he's wanting the Opening Day gig for a third straight year. I am hoping he gets it.

It's a good thing he stopped listening to the crappy hitting coaches we've had. He's finally hitting up to his potential.

A fine job by Brandon today, but let's not get carried away. He has historically done well after returning from his annual visit to Toledo. The fact he makes a yearly trip to Ohio is indictive of his problem. He is also, historically, not a good hitter. I hope he proves me wrong, but even if he hits .400 for the remainder of the season, his career numbers indicate he will eventually return to his pre-demotion form.

Jen, Jen, Jen. I am tired of one game wonders. And one week wonders. And one month wonders. I want this team to be, at very least, competetive. That won't happen with guys like Inge taking up spots in the lineup. I know you love all the guys wearing the Olde English D and I certainly want them to do well, but my patience for poor play is long since gone.
We have to face the simple truth that players like Inge a large part of the reason the Tigers are in the state they are today.
Btw, I am in a very optimistic mood about our guys today. Of course, my positive thoughts all concern brand new players in a brand new year.

I know you're frustrated and tired... so am I, but every win, every good play... it excites me! It renews my spirit and my faith! You gotta have faith Brian, you gotta faith!
I know everyone will fight me to the death on this, but I see talent in this team! I do! I see talent in guys like Inge, Pena, Monroe, Maroth, Bondermen, Morris, and even Sanchez! I love these guys! some of them do have to go, I'll give you that! But on the whole, we got a good group of guys here, we just gotta get those bats moving!

Great post, Jen. And I agree with everything you said.
Inge may be a one-month wonder, but at least he's doing it on a really lame team with a very weak lineup. It's not like he's putting up big numbers hitting in front of Jason Giambi or anything. And if he's finally figured out his hitting troubles, then we're in for a treat, as well as a possible HOF'er. I know, that sounds crazy right? Well, his defensive abilities are phenomenal. Put them both together, and he's going to be one of the top rated catchers in the bigs. I hope we hang on to him, and he continues to produce. Just don't sign him to some majorly whack contract like that "earned" by Shane Halter. Now THAT'S a loser.
I just don't want to let Inge walk away and become yet another Luis Gonzalaz or Juan Encarnacion or Phil Nevin or John Smoltz. :no

I like this guy ;) :D
The only thing I didn't agree with Jay, is that I like Halter. But Brian will tell ya, I like everybody, and he's probably right :D

Yeah, I was sure that you'd come to the defense of Halter. That's fine. You're just a bit more positive and optimistic than I am.
It's his contract that I hate more than anything. A perfect example of an overpaid ballplayer. He had one decent season (decent, not great) and he got a fairly large contract for it. If he would have kept on producing, I wouldn't have minded at all. But I really don't think that's the case with Halter. He's a very sloppy fielder, and not exactly a feared hitter either. To me, that money could have been better spent. Yet another terrible move by the franchise-ruining Randy Smith.

Btw, I am in a very optimistic mood about our guys today. Of course, my positive thoughts all concern brand new players in a brand new year. I don't think these guys are necesarily "one week wonders" or anything, i just think their showing their potential, but have absolutly no reason to remain consistant on such a bad team. I don't think anyone truely beleives Inge is going to hit this way for the rest of his career, but this does show that he does have the ability to hit in the majors, which is very important at such a hard position to find.
These guys just need a reason to come to the park and play everyday, like they did when Juan Gonzalez was here. Would you go out and do your best work, at a job that you knew was going under, and had no future with? Thats why a lot of these guys do so well in the minors, because they are just playing to get to the majors, and once they get here, they realize "whats the point"? Thats just my opinion.
