'CLONES SNAP LOSS STREAK
The Brooklyn Cyclones snapped a six-game losing streak with a gritty win on Thursday, over the Hudson Valley Renedages by a score of 5-4.
The Cyclones looked to be in trouble in the third, when the Renegades scored three runs on a double, a single, and a home run.
Brooklyn responded with one run in the fourth on a bases loaded walk, but left the bases loaded without scoring any other runs in the inning.
In the sixth, though, the Cyclones roared back. Aaron Baldiris singled, and Brett Harper laced his second double of the game down the right field line to drive in a run. Blake Whealy then drove Harper home with a single, and moved to third on an Ender Chavez hit and a Tony Piazza walk. With David Reaver up, Whealy broke for the plate as if he were stealing home, but Reaver swung the bat and sent a fly ball to centerfield. Whealy hit the brakes, raced back to third, tagged up, and raced home again to give Brooklyn the lead.
Hudson Valley tied it up again in the seventh, and the game headed to the bottom of the ninth with the score knotted at 4-4. Jon Slack worked out a walk, and then Ian Bladergroen ripped a two-out single to center. As Slack headed for third, the ball was misplayed, and manager Tim Teufel waved Slack to the plate. Bladergroen was digging for second, and beat the throw as Slack crossed the plate with the winning run.
The Cyclones now start a three game series with the Vermont Expos on Friday at 7pm.
