After my draft a few weeks ago, my QB tandem of Drew Bledsoe and Chad Pennington looked solid. Now I am wondering whether it is worth keeping Pennington in the hopes he returns for the final four games, or whether I should take a flyer on Vinny or David Carr as my backup. Any suggestions?

keeping pennington? that would be sheer foolishness. get someone who has a chance to play all season.
plus, i doubt pennington will be very good the first 2 weeks he is back.
find someone else. vinny would be alright i guess. carr might be on his back too much to be of much use.

i would say that if Chad is healthy they will either be in the playoff hunt and thus stick with Vinny or they will be out of it and not risk reinjuring him... dont keep him

Heck the big question about Pennington anyway was whether he'd be able to do it again this season. One year doesn't make a great QB. Now with the injury I'd take the hit and drop him.
If Vinny and Carr are your only choices just flip a coin and hope Bledsoe stays healthy alll season!

Technically they aren't my only options. I can also pick up Peete, Boller, and Blake. Those aren't such appealing choices though.

Yeah it's a tough choice. This could be a bad/good thing but with Bledsoe having a week 9 bye, you can pick-up one of the QBs you mentioned, Vinny or Carr, keep your eye on the others and if you don't have limits on FA movement try to grab the one that's playing the best as it gets closer to the bye week. Right now it would be tough to try and figure that out.
Vinny has the team behind him and he's got the experience. Carr always has the potential for a big game, but Houston didn't really do much to improve their O line. Boller will do well, but he'll need Lewis to have another year like last to keep the defenses honest.
Here's a story from a few days ago...
