DENVER – Six people were shot early Sunday morning while they stood outside a Denver bar. One person was killed. And one of the other victims is a Colorado State University graduate who currently plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
It happened around 1:45 a.m. at the All Sports Bar & Grill at 38th and Walnut, according to Denver police.
Police say 28-year-old Christopher Wilford was killed in the shooting. One of the five other people injured was Joey Porter, 26, a line backer with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was listed in serious condition at a Denver hospital.
The other people who were injured were Kendal Johnson, Samantha Long, Yvette Marshal and Jeffery Dixon.
Police say the shots were fired from outside a fenced in parking lot where the victims were standing. Spokesman Sonny Jackson said it appears that Porter was simply an innocent bystander. It’s not clear whether the other victims knew each other.
Police are searching for the shooter and no weapon has been recovered
