HIT ONE OUT, AND SHUT 'EM OUT
-- 'Clones take fifth straight

The first-place Cyclones have clinched a playoff spot, and now are trying to wrap up the McNamara Division title. On Monday, they beat the Hudson Valley Renegades 1-0, behind a dominant ptching performance by yusmeiro Petit and a solo home run by Brett Harper.

Petit allowed a single to the second hitter of the game, before retiring the next 22 straight batters, striking out the side twice, and racking up a whopping 13 K's in eight innings, before Robert Paulk pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his league-leading 15th save.

In the fifth inning, Brett Harper plated the only run of the game with a solo shot over the right-field wall, and that was the difference in the game.

Brooklyn entered the day with a half-game lead over the Williamsport Crosscutters, who play a night game on Monday. Brooklyn closes out the regular season with two more games at Hudson Valley on Tuesday and Wednesday, both at 6:11pm.

CYCLONES TAKE SERIES FINALE

The Brooklyn Cyclones topped the Vermont Expos by a score of 6-2 on Sunday evening to sweep the three game series. Tanner Osberg pitched a solid five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits to pick up his first win of the year. Greg Ramirez picked up his first save of the season, getting the last two outs of the game with the bases loaded.

The Cyclones were hitless through the first three innings, but Rashad Parker lead off the fourth inning with a triple and later scored on a wild pitch to put the Cyclones on the board and tied the game at one. Brooklyn added two more runs in the fifth inning when Tony Piazza doubled into right centerfield to drive in Tyler Davidson and later scored on an RBI groundout by Humberto Gonzalez to make the score 3-1. Vermont scored in the top of the sixth to cut the lead in half, but they would not get any closer.

In the eighth inning, Brooklyn added some insurance runs when Rashad Parker singled, stole second and later scored on an Aaron Baldiris RBI single. Tony Piazza, the hitting star off the night, then drilled a single into left field to drive in two more runs and make the score 6-2.

The Cyclones head to Hudson Valley tomorrow to start a critical three game series with the Renegades. Game time is set for 2:00.
=====================
I made it out to Sunday's final Cyclones home game of the 2003 season following the early ending of the Mets game. I arrived in the bottom of the 4th inning with the cyclones ties at 1 and 1. They endes up scoring 2 runs in the 5th, and 3 runs in the 8th to win 6 - 2. BTW, during the hot dog race which is run during every home game after the 5th inning, (between Mustard, Ketchup, and Relish) the race was won by Relish. This was relish's 1st ever win. Relish would have won last Tuesday, but there was a mishap that disqualified Relish from winning.
