Three members of the Chicago Cubs have been disciplined for their actions during the game against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at Wrigley Field. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
Pitcher Antonio Alfonseca has been suspended for seven games and fined an undisclosed amount for making contact with Umpire Justin Klemm. Unless appealed, Alfonseca's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight. If appealed, the suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
Bullpen coach Juan Lopez has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for arguing with Klemm from the bullpen. Lopez's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight.
Outfielder Moises Alou has been fined an undisclosed amount for arguing with and directing inappropriate comments at Klemm.
