CYCLONES FALL, SERIES TIED

Brooklyn, NY -- September 6, 2003

The Cyclones fell to the Oneonta Tigers on Saturday night, by the score of 4-2. Reliever Yusmeiro Petit took the loss, going 2.1 innings, surrendering two runs. Saturday night's loss sets up a do-or-die game three, set for 5 p.m. on Sunday at KeySpan Park.

Brooklyn jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Jon Slack's two-out pop up was dropped by Oneonta shortstop Tony Giarratano.

The lead lasted until the top of the seventh, when Oneonta scored twice. Those runs, in addition to the one pushed across in the fifth, gave Oneonta the lead at 3-2. The Tigers added an insurance run in the top of the eighth on a wild pitch to close the scoring at 4-2.

The teams could only combine for nine hits, but three of four Oneonta runs were scored by runners who reached base via walks. The three game series will end tomorrow night, with the winner advancing to the Championship Series, scheduled to start Tuesday against the winner of the Williamsport-Auburn series.

CYCLONES TAKE OPENER FROM ONEONTA

September 5 -- The Brooklyn Cyclones downed the Oneonta Tigers by a score of 7-2 on Friday night in game one of the best of three series. In a game in which the Cyclones would never trail, Brooklyn starter Evan MacLean picked up the win, pitching five solid innings, allowing only one run on five hits while striking out six.

Brooklyn jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Jon Slack led off the game with a triple and scored on a Rashad Parker single. Oneonta tied the game at one in the third, but Brooklyn responded with a run of their own in the top half of the fourth. Outfielder Matt Watson, who is on a rehab assignment with the Cyclones, tripled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Aaron Baldiris. The Cyclones would add to their lead in the seventh inning when Brett Harper doubled down the left field line and scored on a David Reaver RBI single to make the score 3-1.

Oneonta scored once in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead in half, but in the top of the ninth the Cyclones erupted for four more runs to put the game out of reach. Aaron Baldiris started the rally with a leadoff walk, and advanced to second when Ian Bladergroen reached on an error. Brett Harper then hit his second double of the game, this time down the right field line, to drive both runners home. Yunir Garcia then walked to put runners on the corners. Jon Slack then singled to drive Harper home, Rashad Parker followed that up with an RBI single of his own to make the score 7-2. Robert Paulk pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game for Brooklyn, and give them a 1-0 lead in the series.

The Cyclones return to KeySpan Park Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in hopes of closing out the series. There are still plenty of great seats available for tomorrow's game, and they can be purchased in person at the KeySpan Park box office or over the phone by calling (718) 507-TIXX.
