'CUTTERS CHOP DOWN CLONES IN GAME ONE
September 9 -- Williamsport, PA
The Brooklyn Cyclones lost to the Williamsport Crosscutters by a score of 7-2 in game one of the New York-Penn League Championship Series. Starter Greg Ramirez suffered the loss for the Cyclones, allowing five runs in only two innings of work.
Williamsport jumped out to the early lead when they exploded for five runs in the second inning The crushing blow came when Nyger Morgan smoked a bases clearing triple to drive in three and make the score 5-0. Brooklyn scored once in the top of the third on an RBI single by Tyler Davidson to make the the score 5-1. However the rally ended when Ian Bladergroen struck out with runners on second and third. The Crosscutters responded in the bottom of the frame with another run to increase their lead to 6-1.
The Cyclones threatened to cut into that lead in the seventh inning when Ender Chavez and Stacy Bennett lead off the inning with back to back singles before Jon Slack drove Chavez home with a single of his own. Aaron Baldiris then added another single to load the bases with only one out. But again, the Cyclones, who had 12 hits on the night, failed to get the clutch hit they needed with runners in scoring position. Matt Watson and Brett Harper both popped up to end the inning with the score 6-2. Williamsport would add another run in the bottom of the seventh to make the score 7-2 and that is how the game would end.
The series continues tomorrow at KeySpan Park. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m when Even MacLean(1-0) will take the mound for the Cyclones in the critical game two. There are still tickets available at the KeySpan Park box office or by calling (718)507-TIXX.
