CITIZENS BANK PARK UPDATE
HOME OF THE PHILLIES * APRIL 2004
September 9, 2004
STATUE LOCATIONS REVEALED!
What do Mike Schmidt, Richie Ashburn, Steve Carlton and Robin Roberts have in common? In addition to being Hall of Famers, these Phillies legends will all have their place in Citizens Bank Park.
Zenos Frudakis, a nationally-acclaimed sculptor, has been commissioned by the Phillies to create 10-foot tall bronze
sculptures of the above-mentioned baseball greats. The player's individual poses have already been chosen, and Zenos has been busy crafting maquettes (10 inches and 3 feet) before the full figures are produced. Once the 10-foot clay models are complete in early December, they will go to the foundry to be cast in
bronze.
Finally, the bronze statues will take their permanent places in the new ballpark - all in locations that will pay homage to the significant contribution each of the players made to Phillies baseball. For example, the statue of Richie Ashburn will be located in center field (where he played for 12 years) along Ashburn Alley. And the other statues will be in front of the entrance gates, greeting all fans as they enter Citizens Bank Park: Mike Schmidt at the Third Base Gate (southwest corner), Steve Carlton at the Left Field Gate (northwest corner), and Robin Roberts at the First Base Gate (southeast corner).
The bronze statues will be unveiled prior to the April
2004 opening.

FOUL POLES AND PIPES!
A quick glance on the ballpark Web Cam and fans will be able to see two, bright yellow, 80-foot high poles - one in left and right field. They're the foul poles - and they have been raised and welded in place.
And ... all are urged to get ready for the natural grass and dirt field! Workers are currently placing pipes for the field's drainage system, and in just a month and a half sod will be rolled off of huge trucks from Tuckahoe Farm and onto the field.
