Jamal Lewis breaks single-game rushing record
September 14, 2003
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Ravens running back Jamal Lewis broke the NFL's single-game rushing record Sunday with a fourth-quarter carry against the Cleveland Browns that gave him 280 yards.
On third-and-15 from the Baltimore 23-yard line, Lewis went off left tackle for a 3-yard gain that eclipsed the 278 yards Cincinnati's Corey Dillon gained Oct. 22, 2000 against Denver. It was Lewis' 26th carry of the game.
Lewis earlier scored touchdowns on runs of 82 and 63 yards.
Earlier in the week, Lewis told the Browns he would set the record.
