Embree, who will turn 32 on Jan. 23, has pitched eight seasons in the Major Leagues with the Indians (1992, 1995-96), Braves (1997-98), Diamondbacks (1998), Giants (1999-2001) and White Sox (2001). He has appeared in at least 55 games in each of the last five seasons, topping 60 appearances in four of the last five, including the last three in a row.
The left-hander has compiled an 18-19 record and a 4.86 ERA in 364 career games, all but four out of the bullpen. In 346 career innings, he has struck out 317 and walked 156. In his Major League career, Embree has held left-handed hitters to a .233 batting average.
Embree was a combined 1-4 with a 7.33 ERA in 61 appearances for the Giants and White Sox in 2001, striking out 59 in 54 innings of work. After opening the year in San Francisco, he was traded to Chicago on June 29.
He has pitched in the postseason on four occasions, compiling a 2.46 ERA in 11 playoff and World Series games for the Indians in 1995 and 1996, the Braves in 1997 and the Giants in 2000.
