Red Sox Notes: Rolando Arrojo (2-2, 3.64) makes his third start of the season and his second against the Braves. On June 15, Arrojo replaced Pedro Martinez as the starter at Turner Field and picked up a no-decision after allowing two runs and five hits in five innings. The Red Sox rallied to beat Atlanta, 9-5, in 10 innings in that game. In his last start Sunday, Arrojo blanked the Blue Jays in Toronto, giving up only one hit in seven innings, as the Red Sox beat the Jays, 4-0. The right-hander is 0-1 in eight lifetime appearances against the Braves. ... Trot Nixon's eighth-inning home run gave him 14 this season, one shy of his career high in 1999. It was the outfielder's seventh long ball in his last 17 games. ... Brian Daubach's nine-game hitting streak came to an end Thursday when Mike Lansing pinch-hit for him in the ninth, leaving Daubach hitless in four at-bats. ... Chris Stynes went 2-for-4, raising his average to .302 and giving the Red Sox three players (Stynes, Ramirez and Bichette) with an average over .300.

Braves Notes: John Burkett (6-6, 2.39) makes his second start of the season against the Red Sox, and his first since being named to the National League All-Star team by NL Manager Bobby Valentine. Burkett fired eight shutout innings at the Red Sox to pick up a win in Atlanta's 8-0 victory on June 16 at Turner Field. At one point, he struck out eight batters and retired 15 straight. Burkett is 2-1 in six games against Boston, but 0-1 in three starts since June 16. In his last three games, Burkett has allowed just four runs and 14 hits in 20 1/3 innings. ... All-Star third baseman Chipper Jones is day-to-day with bruised ribs after a freak injury during Atlanta's 9-5 win over the Phillies Thursday at Turner Field. Jones was hit by an errant throw from Braves first baseman Wes Helms during warmups prior to the ninth inning. ... Braves ace Greg Maddux, who currently leads the NL in ERA, picked up his 250th career win on Thursday. ... The Braves agreed to terms with veteran third baseman Ken Caminiti Thursday. The 1996 NL Most Valuable Player was released Monday by the Texas Rangers after hitting .232 with nine homers and 25 RBIs in 54 games. He struck out 41 times in 185 at-bats while committing nine errors. ... Atlanta has won 10 of its last 13 games to close within one game of first-place Philadelphia in the NL East.
