Dear Baseball Gods,
Some of us understand that You created the Yankees because there are certain people in this world who are utterly incapable of dealing with disappointment and despair. We understand that You realize that some of the rest of us are much better equipped to deal with these things.
However, don't you think that, perhaps, we may have suffered enough? Perhaps those who have never known heartache SHOULD experience it just so they can become complete human beings? Fully functioning adults learn empathy as children, and this is as good a time as any for our pinstriped friends to learn it. Right? I mean, after all, we just want to help them, and learning that, in the immortal words of Mick Jagger, "you can't always get what you want," is a big part of the process of growing up to be an emotionally stable adult.
Sincerely yours,
Red Sox Nation, New York chapter.
