Patriots activate two, release Centers

Patriots announced today they activated rookie free agent Shawn Mayer and seventh round draft pick Tully Banta-Cain. The team also released FB Larry Centers and placed OL Adrian Klemm on injured reserve.
Mayer, 24, is a safety out of Penn State, 6-0, 201. He led Penn State in tackles his last two years with 144 his senior year.
Banta-Cain, 23, 6-2, 254, was drafted in the seventh round, out of California. He is expected to compete for a role on the defensive line.
Centers was signed as a free agent during the offseason. So far this season, he had caught 17 balls for 96 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 69 yards on 15 attempts for 4.6 yards per carry.
Klemm saw duty on the offensive line at right tackle, starting in the first three games of the season until he hurt his ankle.
