Looks like neither are staying

Gary Sheffield, OF
Nov. 14 -- Gary Sheffield, the agent, has already chatted with Yankees GM Brian Cashman about Sheffield, the player. The free-agent outfielder, who represents himself, has been candid about his interest to play in pinstripes, prompting the Braves to swing into quick action. Braves GM John Schuerholz and assistant GM Frank Wren paid Sheffield a visit in his Tampa home before making their way to Phoenix for the general managers' meeting. But don't be quick to jump to conclusions about how much Sheff loves New York -- he may not have an agent, but he does have a publicist, and that's New York-based Marvet Britto. There's a combination to be leery of: a free agent and a publicist.

Greg Maddux, RHP
Nov. 13 -- Matters remain deadly silent between the Braves and Greg Maddux, reinforcing the belief the right-hander will be allowed to leave Georgia and seek the 11 wins he needs for 300 elsewhere. San Diego and St. Louis are possible destinations.http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/news/mlb_news.jsp?ymd=20031106&content_id=600299&vkey=news_mlb_nd&fext=.jsp#sheffield

Makes me sad.

If they Yankees want Sheffield, and by all indications they do, its doubtful George will let anybody out bid him for his services. So it looks like Sheffield will be wearing pinstripes next season. It would have been nice to keep him, but players come and go. That's just the nature of the environment of today's game. The Braves will survive without him.

I would have loved to see Maddux get #300 in a Braves' uniform but it probably won't happen. However, the money it would take to keep him is not worth it. He has more money than he can ever spend, but for a few more millions that he'll never spend, it looks like he be elsewhere. Maddux is one of my four or five favorite Braves of all time and I hate to see him move on. But no more than I hated seeing Hank Aaron, Phil Niekro, Dale Murphy land Tom Glavine leave.

My gut feeling is that Sheff will be a Yankee:cry:

My feelings are the same. They can offer him the most money.
