For Fossum and minor leaguers. They have 72 hours to reach an agreement. Schiling can veto the deal. He wants a two year extension for $30 million. He wants to come to the Yankees, and would sign with them for two years, $24 million.

VETO CURT!! VETO!!!! :nah http://forums.nyyfans.com/images/smilies/erm-ah.gif

If he vetos, then AZ would likely want Sori and Nick. I wonder if this is what the Sox are hoping for. This could just be a ploy to make the Yanks pay thru the nose.

Actually, this is Exactly what Az wants. A bidding war. The Yanks rejected the Sori and Nick for Schilling. Would George be crazy enough to do it to keep Curt away from Boston?

I say yes. I fully expect that to happen.

If George trades Sori and Nick for Schilling there may be a riot in New York

2 years of Schilling vs. 10+ years of Sori and Nick....c'mon George, you don't have to be Einstein to figure that one out...

If he must react just to stick it to Boston, overpay for Vasquez; that's better than overpaying for Schilling.

As long as George doesn't give up Sori and Nick for Schilling, this could POTENTIALLY be good news. It could mean that the Yanks (in other words GEORGE) will go after more free agents than originally planned (since Boston, w/ Schilling, becomes a damn dangerous threat), or, if Schilling turns Boston down, the Yanks have more leverage since the D-Backs have one less taker for Schilling's salary. Actually, even if Schilling accepts, the Yanks STILL have leverage since Boston (unless they dump Manny) would be tied down financially and thus OUT of the free-agent race. And (this one's kinda a stretch) if the trade goes through it could lower the price for Vasquez, since if Schilling can be had with Fossum and peanuts, then Montreal can't expect Sori and NJ for Vasquez (then again, there is the Yankee Tax, so you never know)

I know one thing though; I would NOT want to be eating with George if Schilling accepts Boston's deal on Thanksgiving Day...:scared:

A Boston rotation of Pedro, Schill, & Lowe would be pretty scary. Maybe George should anti up?

Agreed, I think he would. You seen how desperate he was to get Matsui and Contreras when it looked liked they could be headed to Boston. And then of course, the Yankees hand in the White Sox acquiring Bartolo Colon under the nose of the Sox. Yes, George is that crazy.

You all are talking about this just being a ploy by the Red Sox to get NY to ante up, but that can not possibly be the case since AZ has already accepted the Fossum/Lyon deal. Even if NY offered Nick Johnson and Sori, a Dbacks/Sox trade is already in place. Why would Schilling reject the trade just to give AZ more leverage? That makes no sense. There is nothing George can do at the point to disrupt this deal, other than tamper with the trade (but even George is not that stupid). It's not about George. This is strictly a matter of the Sox convincing Schilling to come to Boston, and it has nothing to do with the Yankees. This is about the Red Sox trying to get Curt Schilling to come to Boston, not the Red Sox trying to get NY to give up more players.

I think Schilling likes to be on underdog team so he probably will pick Red Sox... since Arizona was an underdog team when they won the World Series.

Geroge better do something pretty darn quick to prevent from this happening! :2guns: :banghead

thanks for the clarification....

The Yanks must have had the oppurtunity to top Boston before the trade went to the commissioner's office....that's some restraint on George's part

Kiwi--Schilling has said that he would choose NY over Boston but he doesn't have that choice.

Colangelo hates Steinbrenner. He tried to hold up George, knowing George wouldn't bite. George figured he'd get Schilling for less. He was wrong.

Colon people? :D

Vasquez and Pettitte are my picks to be Yanks at the end of the off-season, and possibly A-Rod, depending on how much George is willing to give up.

Yeah I've heard that Colangelo has been dying to stick it to George since the Boomer incident.

I dunno about Colon...I've heard bad things about his work ethic, and to me he's had one too many cheeseburgers http://forums.nyyfans.com/images/smilies/erm-ah.gif

Vasquez on the other hand :naughty:. He would cost at least NJ though :(

Frag--I would add Sheffield to that list...he seems awfully close to signing...

I'm not a Colon fan either.

He never really lived up to his potential.

one too many cheeseburgers? hell, he's had about 3 too many trips to the buffet line!
