Finally!

Cyn, are you heading to the bar now?

I'll be hittin' the television and this thread on & off..

And before you go, good luck ;)

hall sure did shank that attempt. I think the best part about the Raiders is Tim Brown. He is one of the classiest acts in all of the NFL. He also was once the fastest man in the NFL. He has had I believe 11 straight 1000 yards seasons. This was catching passes from the likes of Jay Schroeder, Doug Evans, Todd Marinovich, Jeff George, Jeff Hostetler, etc...

If the Raiders had had even a 1/2 decent QB during his career, he would be the greatest receiver of all time. As it is, I think he is #2, behind only that Rice guy.

What a freaing WUSS... I hate Sebastian Janikowski. First, the guy sits out last week because he has "cellulite" on his foot. My goodness.. look at the guy.. where DOESN'T he have cellulite???

Then on that kickoff return, he sort of prances around as i know he is thinking "OH PLEASE GOD!!!! Don't make me have to tackle this guy" rather than going up on him and just making a freaking hit...

I also hate offenses like the Jets and the Bucs. Especially the Bucs today. When you are down by 2 scores with 6 minutes left, you have to throw the ball DOWN THE FIELD!!! Although, after watching what happened when Brad Johnson threw downfield, I can sort of understand it.

anyone else here who really thinks that Dennis Miller doesn't belong in the booth? When I tune into a football telecast, I don't want a guy in the booth there who knows nothing about football trying tomake me laugh. IF you know something about football then you have evey right to make me laugh. Such as Paul Mcguire. I like the ESPN sunday night crew. They have football knowledge, and Maguire can make me laugh.

don't get me wrong, I like Dennis Miller. He is a Pittsburgh guy who still loves it here and spends a lot of time here, but get him out of the booth.

Jets have missed a 45 yard field goal and had a FG blocked that led to a TD drive. A 10 point swing wil kill you every time...

The Jets were a little too "cautious" in the first half. I agree with you, Shawn, when you said that you need to throw the ball downfield. Forget the draws, screens, and shuttle passes on 3rd down.

However, the Jets' came out gunnin' at the start of the second half.

I still think they can take this game..

And man, I love Curtis Martin. If the Patriots still had him this year, they'd easily be a more realistic Super Bowl contender.

2:39 in the 3rd quarter, 16-10, Oakland.

Looks like another thriller..

I think the first team to make the big defensive play (a turn over) will capture the victory..

Curtis has long been one of my favorites. He was a friend of my old roomate and a neighbor of my best friend once they got to college. Very ncice guy. A lot of people don't realize it, but he only played one half of football in his junior season at Pitt before badly spraining his ankle. Then he declared himself eligible for the draft when he still would have had 2 seasons of eligibility left. Coming into the NFL after missing an entire season hurt his draft position badly. The Pats took a chance on him, and it paid off well for them.

The Jets did come out strong in the 2nd half, but they are still trying to dink the raiders to death, and that just now has cost them with a turnover. The jets needed to take advantage of back to back personal fouls a few minutes ago.

Uh oh, that Harris fumble could have been it..

and just as you send this, the jets turn the ball over, and follow it up with a huge play to Rice to the 3 yard line.

(Sigh) And I really wanted the Pats in the 2nd round.. ;)

it looks like IF your Dolphins win (which they should) they get US!!! WOOOOO

Touchdown Raiders..

New York needs to respond right now.. spread out the Raiders and throw the ball downfield.. Coles & Chrebet should be able to create a lot of seperation..

Chad Morton's a pretty decent kick returner.. he runs like hell straight ahead..

Is he a rookie?

imgreat95
01-12-2002, 11:22 PM
here is the problem.. Vinny is not the guy you want throwing the ball downfield down by 2 TDs... 5 years ago, yes... but I believe that with an entire quarter left, the jets still willnot open it up.

pdaj
01-12-2002, 11:22 PM
That's what I'm talking about!

Great throw downfield to Chrebet..

Keep it up, boys..

Ah, thank you.. I lik e'm a lot.

4th down and goal..

They have to go for it..

pdaj
01-12-2002, 11:28 PM
Yup.. wow..

imgreat95
01-12-2002, 11:29 PM
why in the world do you have vinny throw on a rollout?? Woodson should have picked that off and gone for 6 the other way...

no matter.. Richie Anderson scores on a 4th down pass from Vinny. What the hell kind of defense was that?

pdaj
01-12-2002, 11:29 PM
Touchdown Jets!

Niiice play.. spreadin' e'm out on inside the 5 yard line.

Now it's up to the defense..

I hope the Jets' offense stays aggressive..

You read my mind.. the raiders looked terribly confused on that play call..

Cyn's probably having a heart attack right now..

Haha, Shawn, have you seen the golden retriever/rabies commercial?

First indication that I've been hanging around the boards too long?

My wittiness seems to be catching on.. and with Shawn!

That could be the fork in the Jets..

Damn, are you sure that Rice is 39?

I think that is the nail in the coffin right there...

damn dude.. too much of the same thought process going on here for my liking..

did you just see that Bud Light commercial??
haha

pdaj
01-12-2002, 11:41 PM
Well, that Jets' have showed the ability to move downfield with efficent speed..

Although the outlook (from the Jets' perspective) looks grim..

pdaj
01-12-2002, 11:48 PM
What the hell is up with the rinky dink crap?

Get in the frikin' endzone..

Now that have to onside kick if they score the touchdown..

Absolutely horrible time management..

pdaj
01-12-2002, 11:51 PM
Finally!

Touchdown!

Geez, but did it have to take that long?

Here comes the onside kick..

Haha, yes.. enjoyable..

imgreat95
01-12-2002, 11:53 PM
see.. i absolutely hate that. They could right now be sitting there BEFORE the 2 minute warning as opposed to a minute something left. I HATE offenses like that. If I had been running an offense like that when I was in HS, I would have quit.

imgreat95
01-12-2002, 11:55 PM
WTF!?!??! Why kick it deep?? What's the point?? ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!

pdaj
01-12-2002, 11:59 PM
Well, I didn't like the decision to kick off deep rather than attempt the onside kick..

And, now, the one time I'd like the Jets to win.. they blow it, making the Dolphins' route to the Super Bowl as difficult as possible..

imgreat95
01-12-2002, 11:59 PM
absolutely HORRIBLE defensive execution...

New England's going to smack that friggin' team..

Imgreat I noticed you ripping Janikowski for not making a tackle and I agree. there is no reason a kicker shouldn't make a tackle. Maybe thats just because here in Philly we got David Akers and he's not afraid to make a takcle (he has 5 this season and no one has gotten by him). Anyone watch the [Eagles game against] (raping of) the Bucs? Did you see Akers tackle? That was pretty good and not just for a kicker, he hit that pretty hard.

imgreat95
01-13-2002, 12:06 AM
yeah.. i did see that. Janikowski only had to step up a couple of yards and hit the guy. He is HUGE for a kicker. Quit being a freaking wuss and hit someone. I remember back when Dereck Bennett (the chargers punter) came into the NFL from the Australian League. His first game, he ayed out a guy so hard that I was cheering. I hate kickers who just sit back and watch.

pdaj
01-13-2002, 12:07 AM
Vinatieri's pretty nasty in that respect..

TheSmellyCat
01-13-2002, 12:10 AM
There's nothing better then a good hit by a kicker, well to me seeing a kicker(or punter) make a good tackle is almost as good as seeing Dawkins lay someone out when their QB throws a duck across the middle.

cool play-by-play you guys:)

WELL..... i didn't expect them to win, so i'm not terribly devastated...... although the last 4 minutes or so was pretty frustrating..... *sigh*.... oh well.... what can ya do...... (wow, i'm taking this well.... did someone slip a valium in my drink?) good analysis paul and shawn...... *sigh*, we need a real quarterback.....:hmm:

Cara mia, ti voglio bene e ti penso sempre..........

see cyn.. analyzing a football game is something i could definately do as a life long career. I love it. But more than that, Iw ould love to be a football coach. I absoilutely love this game.

metmagic
01-13-2002, 04:22 AM
why don't you try and be a football coach? you seem to love it so much and you know your sh*t:cool:

so who do the steelers play next week? let's see oakland and philadelphia won today.......

imgreat95
01-13-2002, 04:33 AM
well.. the problem is that Iwould have to give up playing hockey in order to coach football anywhere. I do coach baseball though and work during the preseason coaching track.. so i do still get to coach.

As for the Steelers, they will play the winner of tomorrow's game between the Ravens and Dolphins. Honestly, I want to play the Ravens again because I want to get another chance to smack them around. Nothing would make me happier than to see them knock the defending champs on their asses... (well except for them winning the SB)

metmagic
01-13-2002, 04:35 AM
what time is the ravens/fins tomorrow and what's the spread?

metmagic
01-13-2002, 04:37 AM
that's so cool that you really like coaching..... i bet you're good at it:) .....yeah, that's tough having to choose between football and hockey..... i hate choices like that......:hmm:

imgreat95
01-13-2002, 04:50 AM
I am not positive.. i think the ravens/phins play at 12:30.. but don't quote me on that, because I will definately deny it.

As for the coaching/playing thing, if i have a choice I will ALWAYS choose the playing. I figure I have all my life to coach sports, but the time to play may be limited. Especially if my body keeps doing the crazy things it is doing...
