Yanks Eye Trade For Kevin Brown
By Ken Davidoff and Jon Heyman
Staff Writers
According to multiple sources, the Yankees have seriously contemplated acquiring righthander Kevin Brown from the Dodgers. In return for Brown, who will turn 39 in March and will make $15 million in each of the next two seasons, the Yankees have offered their beleaguered righthander, Jeff Weaver.
Kevin Brown for Jeff Weaver? Hmm...I wonder what Kel's thinking... :D
I don't care if we get a bag of balls and pay it $15 million. Anything other than Weaver.:clap2:

DODGING RUMORS: Officials from both the Yankees and Dodgers said there are no conversations between the teams about a trade involving L.A. ace Kevin Brown and the Yankees' Jeff Weaver, as was reported yesterday. "I don't know where this talk came from," a Yankees official said. "I suspect it might be the agent (for Brown, Scott Boras)." The Dodgers official not only stated there was no interest in the struggling Weaver, but added, "If we were to offer any of our pitching, it would only be for offense." ... Gary Sheffield and George Steinbrenner met again yesterday in Tampa as they try to hammer out a contract.
Sorry to have to say this, but I think we're gonna have to start coming to terms with the fact that Weaver might well be a Yankee next season.....
:ugh:
Really wish we'd hurry the hell up with Sheff too.

I think Theo's next move should be to pay Weaver $5 mil out-of-pocket to stay in New York. Even with the addition of Schilling, that would be, by FAR, Boston's best offseason move....

Why don't they just cut him? Its not like they can't afford it and its not like theyll be short a starter, right? And theyre not gonna get much for him in a trade.

I ask again...why do anything with Weaver other than leave him with Conners in A? :umm
Why dump him or trade him for nothing? :umm He's still a potential trade piece. He isn't a hopeless cause.
If we're trading/dumping him for nothing we'd still be paying his salary, why not keep him in A ball were he can't hurt the Yanks and pray that Conners can turn him around?

True..stupid to dump him and keep paying him..as long as they keep him away from the Yankees, I don't care what they do with him! Keep him down below where he can't hurt us!

I think the Yankees are desperate to prove that they didn't make a mistake with Weaver, and think that he can mabye still turn it around. Everyone else on the planet however, knows that he can't.

the Yankees problem is that they picked up Weaver in last year's pennant race from the DETROIT TIGERS (sorry, no offense Jen). Sure he might have had a winning record at the time, but SOMEBODY's gotta win in Detroit. i mean, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
weaver has front office written all over him.
