Also, Theo is slacking. We still need a 2nd baseman, bullpen help, possibly a left fielder, contract extensions,........yada yada.....

GET MOVING THEO!

Theres tons of good second basemen available.

Fernando Vina

Pokey Reese

We can even sign, your favorite, Batista to 3rd and have Mueller play second. :notme: But I dont know how much Batista cost. Probably ALOT.

I think we should re-sign Todd Walker.

Pokey sucks. He was injured all the time last year, and couldn't hit to save his life.

Vina is waaay over-priced, plus he's a jerk.

I want Walker back.:(

Theo has pretty much said Todd's too expensive. I disagree.

He's worth it.

Exactly. I heard, on WEEI, about them talking to an agent of someone, I totally forgot the name, but he would be a replacement for Walker, and hes like a $5+ million man. Hes a better second basemen than Walker, but not a better hitter. So isnt that an offset? Walker's only looking for $3+ million. SO just sign Walker already. sheesh. And give us something to talk about already.

i would love to keep walker on the team, despite his lack of range, because he can simply hit. If he goes, the guy I want in here is Jose Vidro from the Expos, though I am unsure of the likelihood of that.

also, there seems to be a report on ESPN INsider that the Sox could pursue Rich Aurilla from the Giants and get him to play third??? i take it then that Mueller would play second?? If anyone subscribes to INsider and could post the report, I'd love to read, even if only a rumor.

and yeah, if walker is only 3mil, just sign him already, Theo. Francona too.

They'd pay Todd 3 mill in a heartbeat. I think he's looking for 7. I've heard the Aurilia rumor too. Guy can't hit though can he?

Thats the guy they said on WEEI, Jose Vidro. Theyre speaking to his agent as we speak. But those are just rumors. Im clueless, this is one confusing offseason. :umm

WOW!!! Walker is looking for $7 mil??? I thought it was just $3. Cuz they were asking on WEEI, why pay Vidro $5, when you can sign Walker. I was just assuming that it would be less than Vidro.

as much as i like Walkah, i'd rather pay $5mil for Vidro than $3mil for Todd. I think its worth it, offensively and defensively

He's about the same as Walker. Remember Aurilia's awesome 2001? .324 with 37 homers and 97 RBIs. He was an MVP candidate.

Report: Red Sox to name Francona manager

December 3, 2003
BOSTON (Ticker) - Just over a month after parting ways with Grady Little, the Boston Red Sox apparently have settled on Terry Francona as their new manager.

According to a report in Wednesday's Boston Globe, the Red Sox will name Francona, the bench coach of the Oakland Athletics, as their manager on Thursday or Friday.

Francona served as bench coach for the Texas Rangers in 2002 before taking the same job under manager Ken Macha in Oakland. The Athletics lost Game Five of the American League Division Series for the fourth straight year, blowing a two-games-to-none lead to the Red Sox.

The 44-year-old Francona managed the Philadelphia Phillies from 1997-00, compiling a 285-363 record. Righthander Curt Schilling, acquired from the Arizona Diamondbacks last weekend, played for Francona in Philadelphia and is expected to warmly embrace the hiring.

The Red Sox announced that they would name a manager before the start of the winter meetings in New Orleans on December 12.

According to the Boston Globe, Francona impressed the Red Sox in a November 5 interview and the team has spoken to just two other candidates, Anaheim Angels bench coach Joe Maddon and Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Glenn Hoffman, who played for Boston.

The Red Sox lost Game Seven of the American League Championship Series to the New York Yankees when Aaron Boone homered in the 11th inning off knuckleballer Tim Wakefield. Little was heavily criticized for leaving ace Pedro Martinez in the game to blow a 5-2 lead in the eighth inning. The Red Sox later elected not exercise his contract for 2004.
