NEW YORK (Ticker) - With deals for a pair righthanded relievers reportedly already complete, the New York Yankees on Wednesday re-signed lefthander Felix Heredia to a two-year contract.
Terms were not revealed, but the team has an option for a third year.
Heredia went 0-1 with a 1.20 ERA in 12 appearances with the Yankees after being claimed off waivers from the Cincinnati Reds on August 25. He was 5-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 57 appearances for Cincinnati.
The 28-year-old Heredia is 27-18 with a 4.27 ERA in 461 games with Florida, the Chicago Cubs, Toronto, Cincinnati and the Yankees. He made five appearances in the American League Championship Series against Boston, but did not pitch in the World Series.
Although the Yankees have not confirmed any other signings, ESPN reported Wednesday that they have agreed to a two-year, $6.8 million deal with Paul Quantrill, who has spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The New York Daily News reported Tuesday that the Yankees have reached an agreement with Tom Gordon on a two-year contract worth $7.25 million.
The 35-year-old Quantrill was 2-5 with a 1.79 ERA and one save in 89 appearances for the Dodgers last season. He also has played for Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto and is 59-73 with 3.65 ERA and 20 saves in 705 games.
The Yankees also are trying to re-sign lefthander Gabe White.
Last season, New York constantly shuffled its bullpen, acquiring Antonio Osuna, Jesse Orosco, Armando Benitez, Heredia, White and Jeff Nelson. But manager Joe Torre showed little confidence in any of them, often bringing closer Mariano Rivera into the game in the eighth inning. Southpaw Chris Hammond signed a two-year deal prior to the 2003 season.
Steve Karsay was supposed to be the primary set-up man for Rivera, but missed all of last season with an injured right shoulder and the time of his return is uncertain.
