BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Red Sox have reached a new 15-year agreement with Lee County to keep their spring home in Fort Myers, Fla. The Red Sox have trained at City of Palms Park, the club's major league Spring Training venue, and a minor league training facility two miles away, since 1993. Red Sox Executive Vice President/Business Affairs Mike Dee made the announcement.
The agreement, effective immediately, followed the transfer of ownership and control of the two facilities from the City of Fort Myers to Lee County. The county will make a series of capital improvements over the next three years to improve the operations and fan amenities at the ballpark and the minor league training facility, which is operational year-round.

Among the changes, the ballpark's capacity will increase by 1,000 by 2005, and the retail operation will receive upgrades.

"We are pleased to reach an agreement with Lee County to remain at our spring home in Fort Myers," Dee said. "Lee County has made a strong commitment to the Red Sox, and we are confident that together, we can provide our loyal fans and our players with a world-class Spring Training ballpark and training facility.

"So many of our great fans from New England and across the country make the pilgrimage to Fort Myers and Lee County to vacation and support us each February and March. We are delighted that we can sustain the tradition and improve the conditions."

Season tickets for Red Sox Grapefruit League home games are now on sale by calling 877-RED-SOXX or 239-334-4700. Single-game ticket sales begin January 17.
