Technically he never made it to Boston. We was a minor leaguer when we traded him and he got his first MLB experience in Montreal.

Yeah, a minor leager in OUR system. Anyways, he sucks.
Can you say gave up 10 runs without recording an out?:D

Yet he has a World Series ring and came up huge in the NLCS.
Carl Pavano and I have mutual friends, so I am obligated to defend him.

Obviously that loss stung the Marlins hard as they were unable to recover from it.

Oh Yeah, here's the article:
Vazquez headed to Yankees
By Mark Feinsand / MLB.com
NEW YORK -- The New York Yankees will acquire right-hander Javier Vazquez from the Montreal Expos in a trade, MLB.com has learned.
The trade is expected be announced this afternoon, as the Expos have called a 2 p.m. ET press conference.
New York will send first baseman Nick Johnson, outfielder Juan Rivera and reliever Randy Choate to Montreal in exchange for Vazquez, who should bolster a starting rotation that has lost Roger Clemens to retirement and has two others, Andy Pettitte and David Wells, who are free agents.
The Yankees' next move would be to re-sign Pettitte, completing a starting rotation of Vazquez, Pettitte, Mike Mussina, Jose Contreras and either Jeff Weaver...OVER MY DEAD FREAKIN BODY!!!! or Jon Lieber.
Vazquez, 27, is eligible for free agency after the 2004 season, so the Yankees could try to lock him up to a long-term extension before completing a deal. Vazquez, who is eligible for arbitration, earned $6 million last season and could make up to $9 million if it goes to a hearing.
Vazquez went 13-12 with a 3.24 ERA last season, striking out 241 in 230 2/3 innings for the Expos. In parts of six seasons, Vazquez is 64-68 with a 4.16 ERA, though his ERA has been under 4.00 in each of the last three seasons. A power pitcher, Vazquez features an arsenal that includes a sinker, slider, cutter, curveball and changeup.
Johnson, 25, has been long considered the top prospect in the Yankees' organization, but with Jason Giambi signed for five more years, Johnson simply didn't have a position to play. In 2003, Johnson hit .284 with 14 home runs and 47 RBIs in 96 games. He had a team-leading .422 on-base percentage, but missed more than two months with a fractured hand.
Rivera, also 25, has played parts of the last two seasons with New York, batting .262 with eight homers and 32 RBIs in 88 games. Considered a solid defensive outfielder, Rivera was also squeezed out of the Yankees' plans with the signing of Hideki Matsui last winter, and by the possible signing of Gary Sheffield this month.
Gave up Nick and Juan and Randy...no biggy!

What would be the case if David Wells didn't return and Andy Pettite went to Houston? :D

Oh wow....mixed feelings...
I know Vasquez is gonna really help the team, but I'm gonna miss Nick :(...
Aw, screw sentimentality :smokin:. NJ's in the NL, pitching > hitting, and we have the young stud Weaver never was. All is good in Yankeeland :D
That is unless Jason gets injured

Any news about signing Colon or possibly trade to get Kevin Brown???

Vazquez worth it (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/story/143459p-127009c.html)
And if that is still not enough to convince you that Vazquez was worth the gamble, consider this: From 2000-2003, Andy Pettitte had 67 quality starts (6 IP, 3 earned runs or fewer) and still won 68 games. David Wells had 58 quality starts and was able to win 59 games. Vazquez had 83 quality starts - the most of any pitcher in baseball over this period - and won 50 games. Imagine what he might have won over that period with the Yankees' run support.
Wowwww....  :naughty:

No new news yet about Colon. The Kevin Brown deal doesn't look like its gonna happen. Boston is also in the mix for Brown.
