I was reading at MLB.com that the Braves may cut payroll as much as 25 million, which would mean we'd be somewhere in the 65 million area. And you know where we are right now? 65 million. So unless someone donates a few billion to take over the team, are roster isn't changing anymore. So here's what we're looking at:
Starting rotation:
Russ Ortiz
Mike Hampton
Paul Byrd (if he ever gets healthy, rumor are saying he might not be back until the middle of the first half.)
Horacio Ramirez
Adam Wainwright/Jason Marquis/Jaret Wright
Pen
Jung Bong
Gryboski
Trey Hodges
Ray King:barf:
Set-up Man
Will Cunnane
Closer
Smoltz
C-Estrada
1B-LaRoche/Franco
2B-Giles
SS-Furcal
3B-DeRosa
LF-Chipper
CF-Jones
RF-Matthews Jr./Langerhans
Bench
Mike Hessman
Damon Hollins
Jesse Garcia
It's a good mix of young players with extreme talent, players in the middle of their prime, and crafty veterans who can teach the young'ens. If Paul Byrd is healthy, then the top part of the rotation is good, with tons of potential in the bottom half. With the exception of 1B, the infield is solid, and we have a speedy outfield. Estrada has been ready for the majors for two full seasons now, and I expect to him to shoot out of the gates. Even right now, I'd imagine the rookie of the year will be between him and lil' matsui. Anyways, it'll be a fun year to watch.
Edit-That's 26 players, As of right now, I couldn't tell you who would be cut, but that's what Spring Training is for, right?
