so, what team do you all think maddux will end up in? i know st. louis is possible and so is san diego. (better be st. louis because im a cards fan and iv'e been wanting for maddux to join for a very long time-he's incredible!) i know for a fact that maddux will be joining another team next year since he want offered arbitration-but what kinda hole does that put him in because the cards and pads are on tight budjets and every other team that could afford him are already signing big deals...what do you all think?:notme:

I've been hearing that the Cards and Padres are probably the two teams with the best chance of landing him. But don't count out the Yankees. It looks like they are going to lose Pettitte to Houston and if George can't swing a deal for Kevin Brown, he may look at Maddux. But Maddux turned down the Yankees in '92. Whether or not he would do the same at this stage of his career, I don't know. But I imagine George wouldn't mind seeing another pitcher win No. #300 in pinstripes.

And while Maddux is still a pretty good pitcher, whoever gets him needs to be warned that they are not getting the same Maddux that won 4 Cy Youngs in the 90s, or anything close.

While it's sad to see Maddux leave, I think it's for the better. We're trying to get younger (or so it would appear), and Maddux is at the tail end of his career. He's going to need a team that will give him good run support, and both St. Louis and San Diego can do that. My bet would be S.D., mostly cuz that's close to home for him. Just my .02

P.S. And while you're in the Braves forum, it's "yall" not "you all"

yeah i kinda forgot i was in georgia town here! teeheehee...thats the same way for missouri to-where i lived for 11 years-thats of course how i became a cards fan. i not losing my ya'll-i just forgot it momentarily because i was on a baseball subject.

also, even if the 'stros cant land pettite, what are the chances of them looking at maddux? im pretty sure they'd stay away cause it looks as if they;re trying to lower their age too. biggio is getting older, who knows how long b the Bags has been there, and their pitching is young. i would doubt maddux is a great possibility.

Pettite goes to the Stros today....Maddux is no longer a brave and will in all likelyhood sign with SD or STL, yankees aren't an option for 2 reasons....Not what he wanted west coast or within reason to home and he can not bat in the AL....Brown appears to be targeted as of now by the Yankees.....While the braves seem content to sit back and do absolutely nothing....booooo...:moon:

Not exactly true. They are doing the best with what they have. The blame for this lack of anything productive would lie upon AOL/Time Warner's shoulders. If we had a the same 90 million budget as we did last year, I'm sure you could still count on Gary being a Brave, and if not Gary, then an upgrade for Vlad, with Bartolo Colon also being a Brave. Instead, we're stuck with this 70-75 million budget, and Schuerholz is doing the best he can with it.

I know, why can't they just sell the Braves like they did their other sports franchises....Turner still a viable candidate at owner, know his billions and billions were lost but he is still worth a few billion, he can afford them....It is just disappointing to watch them let the team slip, hope they realize the only reason they were making money is because they were good....Losing players will lose games which lose fans which lose money, how hard of a formula is this for the Braves to follow....

Fragments you might want to get James to take the Mod title off of my name...I had to neglect my posts so it is only fitting...let this be a lesson: getting married isn't all its cracked up to be....ooops better edit that before the wife comes back into the room...lol:D
